Abstract |
This study introduces an effect analysis and operation method of Energy Storage Systems(ESS) to relieve the power generation constraints of SPS non-tripping generators. The power generation constraints of non-tripping generators have been applied as a part of the Special Protection Scheme(SPS), which is operated to maintain the transient stability even in the event of transmission line failures connecting large power plants. We propose the application of ESS as a frequency control resource to mitigate the power constraints on non-tripping generators by enabling a reliable increase in the number of SPS tripped generators, thus enhancing transient stability. In the proposed method, the effect of ESS is quantified by dividing the released amount of the generation constraints of non-tripping generators by the applied amount of ESS. Also, the combinations of the number of SPS trip generators and their corresponding power generation constraints of non-tripping generators are proposed as the operation method of SPS with ESS. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through study cases employing Korean power system developed for the basic plan of long-term electricity supply and demand. |
