Abstract |
If a failure occurs in the power system; the electrical output of the generator changes; which can be regarded as a result of an external disturbance input. This paper presents a fault detection method and its application to the out-of-step protection problem by using a PI observer that estimates the magnitude of the disturbance. The performance of the designed observer is verified by computer simulations of the single-machine infinite bus power system. Simulation results show that the disturbance can be estimated successfully within the critical fault clearing time and the estimated disturbance can be used to predict whether the system maintains synchronization after the operation of the circuit breaker. |
