Abstract In the AC electric railway, reactive power is generated due to the inductive characteristics of the vehicle load and the capacitor bank. When the power system supplies reactive power, a penalty is incurred due to a low power factor. In addition, regenerative power is generated when braking a railroad vehicle, and electricity rates can be reduced if it is controlled and used as load power.
This paper verifies the effectiveness through on-site test data that controls the reactive power generated when operating a railway vehicle through RPC, reduces the reactive power supplied by the power system, and controls the regenerative power and utilizes it as load power.
